Subject: 2007 Stonesthrow Newsletter!

Hello!

I'm Stephen…I've lived here at Stonesthrow for 21 years. I am the only owner still living here full time. I want to welcome new tenant, Willow, who is inhabiting Mary's House (#5). She's very friendly, and would like you all to visit her! I have been selected by the founders to be the "Grounds Manager"… which basically means, if you have a problem, come to me! Mainly, I write a spring newsletter and send it out by email, or you may get it at our Stonesthrow blog set up by Jim at:

anyway… Here it goes… another edition. If you want to participate, feel free to blog us!

New Neighbors

There are new owners of the "spirit ranch" property below us. We would like to know their names and visit with them, if you ever contact them on the road.

Fire Season Begins May 15th

Tenants are urged to be very careful with use of barbeques, especially charcoal types. Please use metal pan underneath if used on a redwood deck. No open campfires, burning of any kind, until Nov 15th. Be especially careful with cigarettes or better yet STOP SMOKING! A wildfire in our area would be disastrous for us all! Make sure your smoke alarms have new batteries and a fire extinguisher is available. If not, contact your landlord.

CDF fire rules include: nothing may be stored under a house, and a defensible home is one that is cleared 50 ft minimum around all structures including outbuildings. If a fire erupts, they will only defend structures that pass their criteria.

Other Fire Rules:

Every fire source, including woodstoves, kitchen stoves & bbq's MUST HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER MOUNTED WITH A TAG VERIFYING ITS COMPLIANCE.

Smoke Alarms must be present and in working order in each house, one for each bedroom and one for each level. If this is not the case in your house, please contact your landlord for compliance.

Prevent Driveway Deterioration

You may have noticed our community driveway is beginning to deteriorate, forming washboards and moguls. This is caused by DRIVING TOO FAST on the uphill… tires skip over and over because they are trying to grip, but the driver is pressing too hard on the accelerator. Washboards will keep getting worse, causing all of us to slow down over a very bad road unless everyone slows down NOW! We will "fix" the problem once per year with heavy equipment and major cost, but that doesn't stop it from being estroyed by just ONE PERSON driving too fast UPHILL!

Water Conservation Begins Now

As you know, along with wildfire season comes water conservation. The water committee has installed a new backup water supply that is for the "peak usage" period this year. If anyone experiences any lapse in water utility, contact your
Grounds Manager….that's me!

Gardens

In the spirit of water conservation… this is looking like a record drought year ahead. If a time comes where domestic needs are being compromised, all garden water will be curtailed! This means DO NOT PLAN ON GARDENING UNLESS YOUR SYSTEM INCLUDES AUTOMATIC TIMERS AND DRIP SYSTEMS. Running a hose works in an urban area, but NOT HERE!!!!
